TASO’s Special Dinner: A Celebration of Culture and Collaboration
Columbus, OH – December 4th, 2024
On December 4, 2024, The Turkish American Society of Ohio (TASO) hosted Settlement Project leaders and friends at the community center of TASO in West Dublin, Columbus, OH. This special dinner was not only a celebration of Turkish culture but also served as a landmark event in establishing a bond of cooperation between the two organizations. With around 40 attendees, the night was filled with warmth, culture, and the promise of future efforts together.
The evening began with a presentation on Turkish history, culture, and geography by Ali Kucuker. This was followed by artist Beyzanur Ors showing us her mastery of Ebru (water marbling), an art form that is both ancient and mesmerizing. Settlement Project president Frank Kaufmann explained Settlement Project’s goals and told little known stories about Settlement Project’s roots in international, interfaith peace-seeking. Dr. Kaufmann’s talk emphasized how both organizations could collaborate to support cultural integration, community support, and mutual growth. It was a good blend of education and inspiration, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation for the work of both organizations.
An abundant dinner was provided by TASO, a big variety of Turkish dishes and sweets. During the dinner, all could enjoy guitar music from Dr. Ersin Deger.
In the end, the floor was opened to any moved to offer thoughts and reflections, which allowed us to hear from Syrian Orthodox Archbishop Mor Cassianus, Maquis and Sumiko Van Der Mark, midwest regional leaders of the Settlement Project. And some others.
TASO members expressed their gratitude to all who attended, highlighting how such events are pivotal in maintaining cultural bonds and fostering community spirit.
